The rarest blood type is SARAS, with only 2 families in the world having it and is officially recognised as an entirely new blood group. Sara, an Australian woman donated blood and later a Canadian baby was determined to have the same blood, and needed a transfusion from Sara. The baby had it passed down from her father, who is like Sara.
